Custom foot Lord built off of a Warrior, pondering how many times he will drag his comrades back into a soulless existence.
A new colour scheme I am toying with right now. I think it looks far more Necron-y than the other two, and I am trying to emulate a harsh sun beating down upon them with the dry-brushed Shining Gold.
This Just In!
The Warscythe not only did NOT manage to get nerfed, it got BETTER!
Not only does it still give +2 Str and 2d6 Pen, it is now explicitly AP 1!
How is this different than before, you might ask? I mean, you still slice through Terminator Armour just like before, don’t you? It’s not the Termies that I am concerned with, it is the +2 you get on the Pen chart against metal boxes! Previously the Warscythe received no bonuses on the chart aside from being able to get to it easier than your typical Str 7 weapon. Now you get there easier and have a One in Two chance of making the metal box do it’s Pinata impersonation.
Necron Lord/Overlord with Warscythe and Phase Shifter is now complete with one Khorne Berzerker head and two Eldar heads at his “feet”.
I think he turned out pretty decently, and I am especially enjoying the blade on his Warscythe.
On a more up-beat note of discoveries since the last tournament, I noticed a mini hanging on the wall not to far away from where they keep the Necron Lords and Crypteks at the local game store. It seems that there is a cheeky little model from Warhammer Fantasy called the Vampire Counts Cairn Wraith. Thinking he looked pretty cool, I turned over the blister and found much to my surprise that it came with not one, but three heads. Even better, the middle of the three choices looked quite very similar to the Necron head sculpt. The fact that he wielded an actual scythe, didn’t hurt either.
So, awesome looking mini, Necron-y head, real scythe, AND it turns out to be moderately more affordable than the Lord with Res Orb and significantly more affordable than just the plain Necron Lord. I picked him up and once he is painted he will be my Necron Lord/Overlord with Warscythe and Phase Shifter. I love how beautifully WYSIWYG this mini is going to be, as he is two-thrids not there, which is how often a Phase Shifter phases you out for incoming fire and unwanted stabbings.
Oh, and did I mention the figure is plastic and not that wretched plastic? I showed my find to a fellow Necron player at the Den, and as soon as he noticed the material his first reaction was “buy it”.
I also took this as an opportunity to try out some Liquid Green Stuff to fill in a minor gap running down the spine of the mini, likely caused by a bit too much primer before assembly. I also used a touch on the scythe blade to smooth it out, since it was meant to be a Fantasy mini with a rusted pocked blade. As much as I like him, though, he is at the low end of my queue, with my new ten man Warrior squad and Ghost Ark taking priority over him.
